Our Causes
Hunger
Keeping People Fed
Hunger remains a critical issue in Arizona, a state that faces significant challenges in food security. According to recent data, approximately 1 in 7 Arizonans struggles with hunger, translating to more than 1 million individuals who are food insecure. Among these, children are particularly vulnerable, with around 21% of kids facing the threat of hunger. Areas like Maricopa and Pima counties witness some of the highest rates of food insecurity, highlighting the urgent need for community support and intervention to address this pressing issue.
Efforts to combat hunger in Arizona have been met with both challenges and successes. Various organizations, including food banks and non-profits, are working diligently to provide meals and resources to those in need. However, economic factors such as rising living costs and limited access to nutritious food continue to exacerbate the situation. The collective commitment of communities, volunteers, and local businesses is vital to creating sustainable solutions that ensure all Arizonans have access to the food they need to thrive and lead healthy lives.
What We Do
Food Bank
Every year, we contribute to our local food bank through our annual Intent to Prevent Hunger initiative. Year-round, members will choose to volunteer in food banks on their own time.
Fly-In Breakfast
The San Tan Lions regularly volunteers with the Coolidge Lions to feed the community breakfast.
Advocacy
We strive to raise awareness about how terrible hunger really is and for the community to come together and help keep our people fed.
